Journey Through My World
I started this blog as I saw a real need, for myself. Have you spent countless hours googling "Things to do in your area" for your next shift with your support worker? Does everything seem so expensive, too crowded, anxiety inducing, no idea if they accept companion cards? That's how I was feeling. Overwhelmed and just wished a support coordinator could give me some sort of magic list of "Fun outing ideas for pensioners with disabilities". There is the Queensland Govt website listing places that accept Companion Card, but it is very limited and there is so much more out there!
A little about me. I love video gaming, crafts, art, listening to music, cultural experiences and eating cornchips whilst watching bad reality TV. I'm a massive Star Wars fan, have a lot of tattoos and I love seeing a beautiful landscape IRL too! (My attempt at a gaming joke, I'm sorry). My disability is Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I also have a Severe Anxiety Disorder and can experience Chronic Depression. My pronouns are She/Her.
I have been on the NDIA since 22 December 2022, and it has been life changing for me. I went from just existing and surviving - to actually living (as best as I can with my disabilities!)
Thanks to my amazing support worker and support team I am now:
-
No longer isolated and making meaningful connections outside of my home
-
Looking forward to life and living
-
Facing major fears, triggers and anxieties with my support worker by my side
-
Making beautiful new memories I treasure, which help quieten the traumatic ones of the past
-
Excited for new experiences and fun! (who is this person?!)
I hope to create a source of helpful information regarding accessibility for you, that we've personally experienced or observed. I hope you will find my blog full of budget friendly outing ideas for those of you with a disability/pension, for your support workers, and your families.
If you've found an awesome place you'd like to share or are a business who offers Companion Card free entry or discounts please CONTACT ME.
Take care and have a beautiful day.
