Choosing Laughter This Christmas
The festive season can be loud, busy and a little overwhelming at times, so this year I was craving something different. Instead of carols, shopping centres or big events, I chose laughter. A night out seeing the Hey Felicia! Christmas Special at Sit Down Comedy Club felt like the perfect way to do Christmas without the chaos — and it turned out to be exactly what I needed!

The Vibe Inside Sit Down Comedy Club
Sit Down Comedy Club has a cosy, intimate feel that immediately puts you at ease. The seating is close enough to feel connected to the show, but not so packed that it feels uncomfortable. The room buzzed with anticipation, that gentle hum of people ready to laugh, relax and switch off for a while.
Whether it was groups of friends or possibly co-workers, you could see everyone was in great spirits, and we found everyone to be really friendly.
There’s something comforting about a venue where the focus is simply on being present — no pressure, no rushing, just settling in and enjoying the night as it unfolds.
Hey Felicia’s Energy on Stage
As soon as Hey Felicia! hit the stage, the mood shifted — we were ready! Confident, quick and completely unapologetic, they had the room hooked straight away with their Christmas hits and fierce, animated dance choreography.
Their comedy jumps between bold observations, clever crowd work and moments that are so honest they almost sneak up on you. Nothing felt forced or overly polished — just sharp, real comedy delivered with heaps of personality.
I loved I got to hear so many bangers from the 90's as well as Christmas songs, bingo was so fun and despite wishing with all my might — I did not win a free air fryer from the raffle haha!

When Comedy Feels Relatable
Some of the biggest laughs came from moments that felt very close to home. The kind where you laugh because it’s funny… then laugh again because it’s uncomfortably accurate. Hey Felicia! has a knack for saying the things everyone’s thinking but some aren't brave enough to say out loud — especially in today’s world.
It was never offensive, cruel or awkward — just smart, observant and hilariously real. Unlike some comics who give you the major ick — Hey Felicia! made me feel seen, heard and more understood.
Laughing Together in a Room Full of Strangers
There’s something really special about live comedy. Sitting in a room full of people you don’t know, all laughing at the same moments, creates this instant connection. For that chunk of time, everything else fades into the background.
This was my first live comedy show, and I was really impressed. It was loud, it was joyful, and it felt like a genuine mental reset. Laughter has a way of cutting through everything, and that night it felt genuinely grounding.

Thinking of Going?
Sometimes the best Christmas plans are the ones that end with sore cheeks and a lighter heart. It was the kind of night that reminds you how powerful joy can be — especially when it’s unexpected and shared.
If you’re looking for a fun, low-effort night out this festive season (or honestly, anytime), I’d absolutely recommend catching a comedy show at Sit Down Comedy Club — and keeping an eye out for Hey Felicia! if they're on the line-up. Grab a friend, make it a support worker outing (I took mine), or head in solo and let the laughs do the rest!

🧑🦽 Wheelchair Access
As per their website:
“Entrance to The Sit Down Comedy Club via the main entry on Given Terrace requires the use of a staircase. Should your mobility requirements preclude you from being able to safely navigate stairs, alternative entry to the club is available on the lower level of The Paddo Tavern near the drive-thru bottle shop (entrance via Campbell Street). Upon arrival at The Paddo, head to the drive-thru bottle shop counter and let the staff know you are there for the Comedy Club — they will radio the club and a staff member will come out to guide you through to the accessible entrance.”
There are accessible toilets and accessible seating in the club. Just let them know at the time of booking. We had a wheelchair user at our table, so we saw this first-hand.
🚗 Parking & Transport
Limited free parking is available at the Paddo Tavern — arrive early to secure a spot. We attended the 2pm show and found parking easily.
For accessibility parking, please see the website for more information.
🔒 Security
We attended during the afternoon and felt quite safe. The venue is a short walk from the car park. The multi-storey car park does not have a lift, which could be an issue late at night for people with severe anxiety, like myself.
My main challenge on the night was hypervigilance around my drink due to my CPTSD (Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Because of the seating layout, you may be turned toward the stage most of the time, and I found it difficult not being able to see my drink at all times. I spent a lot of the show checking it, as the alternative was holding it the whole time — and I wanted to clap and cheer!
The Paddo Tavern itself felt relaxed and had a really good vibe. It felt like a lazy, easy Sunday afternoon.
🐾 Pet Policy
Guide or Assistance dogs are welcome — just let them know at the time of your booking.
🧘 Quiet Spaces
None available. The club was very loud with music at all times. If you need respite, you would need to leave the club and head upstairs where it is quieter.
🍔 Food Options
Food and drinks are available at SDCC before and during shows. We had a delicious dinner at The Paddo Tavern afterwards.
👥 Crowds
The show was sold out and very busy, but I didn’t feel overwhelmed. The intimate setting helped, even though the loud entertainment and music made it feel busier than it actually was — if that makes sense.
