Sunshine, Smiles & Solidarity: Our Day at the River Pride Picnic
A relaxed afternoon by the river turned into a gentle celebration of love, inclusion and community. The Melt Festival’s River Pride Picnic wasn’t about big stages or loud crowds - just sunshine, laughter and the peaceful rhythm of Pride flowing along the water. A Gentle Morning by the River Some days just have a peaceful kind of magic about them. The sun was out, the sky was clear, and the river shimmered like a ribbon of light - the perfect setting for the Melt Festival’s Ri

Street Art Goes Indoors: The Art of Banksy – Without Limits (Chapter 2)
There's something magnetic about Banksy - the mystery, the rebellion and the way he manages to turn a wall into a wake up call! His art stirs up such a mix of emotions - humour with heartbreak, beauty with despair, hope with devastating loss. Ever since I watched a few documentaries about him, I'd really wanted to see his artwork in person. First Impressions At first glance, the exhibit didn't seem like much walking in, but it kept expanding as you moved through it. It was tw

Tiny Tombs & Spooky Paints: Crafting Mini Coffins for Halloween
Last week I got into more crafting for Halloween - it was so much fun for such little expense! I love a good browse around Kmart and found these awesome mini coffins for just $4. You can also buy a larger one for only $8 - what a bargain! Getting Into the Spooky Spirit There's so many fun and creative ways you could decorate them - paint, photos, newspaper clippings, stickers, diamond art or even some of the fantastic Halloween craft items out at $2 shops like spiders or skel

Crafting Halloween Magic: DIY Clay Witch Hats
Yesterday I got into the spooky spirit with a fun hands-on craft day — making Halloween witch hats out of clay! The table was covered in sculpting tools, bits of clay, and plenty of concentration as we shaped our own mini magical masterpieces. From curling the hat brims just right to adding little stars and moons for decoration, it was the perfect mix of creativity and Halloween fun. Why Witch Hats? Our goal was to make beautiful witch hats that could sit over a tealight, cas

Candle Making at Genki Arts & Crafts
Yesterday I had the chance to try something new - diving into the world of candle making at Genki Arts & Crafts hosted by Wick and Sip ! The room was filled with the soft scent of melted wax and essential oils, and I quickly discovered that creating a candle is just as calming as lighting one. From choosing fragrances to pouring the wax into the glass, the whole experience felt creative and relaxing - and I left with not only a few handmade candles, but also a new appreciati

Supernova Brisbane is coming!
Supernova is a fun day celebrating all things nerdy, geeky, movies, TV shows, gaming, and pop culture - and the best part is, it’s FREE for carers/companion card holders when attending with a paid ticket! We went back in 2023 and had an absolute blast. It is coming up again this year from November 7th-9th and tickets are already on sale. As a massive Star Wars nerd, I was thrilled to hear that the 501st Legion would be there. I’ve seen them cosplay many times before, but it

Matsuri Brisbane
Matsuri Brisbane is a wonderful free festival full of culture and entertainment! Lots of great markets to browse full of Japanese crafts, clothing, food and travel information. You can also book and pay to do some workshops and classes on the day which looked fun. We went nice and early, thankfully, as it was so busy when we left. We loved the Taiko drummers performance. We have seen them before at the Sake Festival and had to see them again. The sound is amazing and feels go

The EKKA
My support worker and I had such a fantastic time yesterday at the Ekka! I had not been since probably my late teens, so I was a little dubious how much value for money it would be now that I am in my 40's. We found so much to do and see. We really enjoyed our day immensely. Going on a Tuesday surpassed my expectations - it was much quieter than I expected. Without huge crowds, we could relax and explore at our own pace. We made our first stop at the showbag pavilion whilst i

Aussie World
Love thrills and chills for a fantastic price and excellent value?! Aussie World is really fun, and has a lot to offer for an adventurous day out with your support person. We were enticed by the Inclusion Day hosted by The Ability Collective . I saw their post on Facebook about it, and I wanted to go and support others with disabilities. They had little stalls all set up for disabled persons selling their hand crafted goodies to buy, which was really cool. You could enter t

Strawberry View Coffee Shack
The Strawberry View Coffee Shack is a gorgeous brunch spot with stunning views. Located in Bellmere, it's built right on a strawberry farm, and has a beautiful backdrop of the Glasshouse Mountains. The menu has a lot of mouth watering choices, involving, of course, fresh, juicy strawberries! I opted for the mini pancakes. My support worker chose a gorgeous strawberry kebab and the smashed avocado - yum! We thought the prices were a little more on the expensive side, but whe

🏳️🌈 Moreton Bay PrideFest
🌈 HAPPY PRIDE MONTH! I was so excited to go to my very first pride festival. I'm in my 40s, but hey, better late than never, right?! This awesome festival is on annually at Pine Rivers Park in Strathpine. The festival is filled with nothing but good vibes and colourful fun! There were fantastic markets to explore and many community services offering cool, free activities. We made some pins, a bracelet, got stickers and I even brought home beads to make another bracelet. Bounce
Exercise that I found actually fun, and it's for any level of fitness! Bounce has a range of trampolines for a casual bounce or if you have some sick tricks you want to try on "The Wall". There was also an X-Park at our venue for thrill seekers wanting a challenge. There was a great play area for the little kids in the miniBOUNCE zone, as well as catering for adults on the huge amount of large trampolines. We spent most of our time on a large trampoline, then we braved a wal

Red Lock Escape Rooms
Love puzzles and looking for a challenge?! Red Lock Escape Rooms are so freaking awesome! They are located on the Sunshine Coast and at North Lakes. We went to the North Lakes one. Each escape room can be played with two - six players and you need to find clues and solve the puzzles in order to escape. They have five cool rooms to choose from and two new ones coming soon. The Wizard's Apprentice, Area 52, The Lost Jungle Gemstone, Game of Stones and Aunt Annie's Asylum are g

Queensland Ballet
On my bucket list was always to see my first ballet. With support now, I was really excited and determined to go and do it! I decided to treat myself for a Christmas present to see The Nutcracker at QPAC's Playhouse, which is in December annually. We had a delicious cheese board and a beverage beforehand, as we waited with anticipation for the performance. It's always a nice opportunity to dress a little fancier than usual too! The choreography was so beautiful that I found

Plaster Fun House
A budget-friendly art day with so much choice in creativity, count me in! We visited the Plaster Fun House and had so much fun. The hardest part was choosing what to paint. There were holiday themes, cute movie characters, and even super nerdy options—I loved that! There were so many Star Wars choices, too. You can browse some of the awesome pieces on offer here . It might make it a bit easier for you when you get there. All you have to do is book online your painting sess

Concerts by Candlelight
One of the most beautiful performances I've witnessed was a string quartet, surrounded by candles in a huge cathedral. Hosted by feverup in the Uniting Church on Albert St Brisbane, they perform quite a range of concerts suiting your musical tastes. I decided to go to the 90's unplugged concert and it was EPIC! My favourite was 'Zombie' by The Cranberries - it gave me goosebumps! 'Under the Bridge' by Red Hot Chili Peppers was surprisingly pretty, and 'Smells like Teen Spiri
