Choosing an Easy, Enjoyable Morning Out

Some mornings call for something quiet and unhurried. Instead of rushing from one thing to the next, we headed up to Mt Mee for a slow start to the day — fresh air first, breakfast second.

I was really in need of some grounding and wanted a gentle reset for my nervous system as we headed into the new year. It was the kind of outing that didn’t require much planning — just a willingness to take things easy and enjoy where we were. Exactly what I needed.

First Stop: Dahmongah Lookout Park

Our morning began at Dahmongah Lookout Park, a peaceful spot that feels instantly calming the moment you arrive. The lookout offers wide, open views and plenty of space to pause, breathe and take it all in. There’s minimal walking required, making it an easy stop if you’re wanting something low-effort but still rewarding.

The gentle sounds of birds, the breeze through the trees and the open sky made this the perfect place to slow down and ease into the day. It’s ideal for sitting quietly, taking photos, or simply enjoying a few moments without any pressure to do more.

The area is beautifully kept, with barbeques, a small seated area, accessible toilets and parking.

Taking a Proper Pause

What I loved most about this stop was how quiet it felt. No crowds, no busy energy — just open space and calm. It’s perfect if you want to ease into the day or need a moment to reset before heading somewhere else. Even a short visit here feels refreshing.

Despite being just an hour away from us, it feels like such a simple way to step away from reality for a while. It’s amazing how even a brief moment in nature can shift your perspective and remind you of what really matters.

Breakfast at Pit Stop Café

After the lookout, we headed over to Pit Stop Café for breakfast, and it was the perfect follow-up to such a peaceful start. The café has a relaxed, welcoming vibe that makes you feel comfortable straight away.

It also has a really cool retro feel, filled with motorcycle and car memorabilia. It’s fun to look around and notice all the little details that have gone into the décor.

From the front, the café looks quite small, but it opens up into a much larger space with stunning views. It’s easy to see why this is a popular stop for tourists, car clubs, motorcyclists and people like us enjoying a day trip.

Our view with breakfast

Breakfast was delicious, satisfying and exactly what you want after a bit of fresh air. Whether you’re stopping in for a coffee and something small or sitting down for a proper meal, it’s a great place to slow down and enjoy your morning.

Simple Pleasures Done Well

This kind of outing is a great reminder that simple plans can still feel really special. A quiet lookout, a good breakfast and no rushing around — sometimes that’s all you need for a perfect morning. It felt like a beautiful way to start the new year
