Sunshine, Smiles & Solidarity: Our Day at the River Pride Picnic
A relaxed afternoon by the river turned into a gentle celebration of love, inclusion and community. The Melt Festival’s River Pride Picnic wasn’t about big stages or loud crowds - just sunshine, laughter and the peaceful rhythm of Pride flowing along the water. A Gentle Morning by the River Some days just have a peaceful kind of magic about them. The sun was out, the sky was clear, and the river shimmered like a ribbon of light - the perfect setting for the Melt Festival’s Ri

Matsuri Brisbane
Matsuri Brisbane is a wonderful free festival full of culture and entertainment! Lots of great markets to browse full of Japanese crafts, clothing, food and travel information. You can also book and pay to do some workshops and classes on the day which looked fun. We went nice and early, thankfully, as it was so busy when we left. We loved the Taiko drummers performance. We have seen them before at the Sake Festival and had to see them again. The sound is amazing and feels go

The EKKA
My support worker and I had such a fantastic time yesterday at the Ekka! I had not been since probably my late teens, so I was a little dubious how much value for money it would be now that I am in my 40's. We found so much to do and see. We really enjoyed our day immensely. Going on a Tuesday surpassed my expectations - it was much quieter than I expected. Without huge crowds, we could relax and explore at our own pace. We made our first stop at the showbag pavilion whilst i

Aussie World
Love thrills and chills for a fantastic price and excellent value?! Aussie World is really fun, and has a lot to offer for an adventurous day out with your support person. We were enticed by the Inclusion Day hosted by The Ability Collective . I saw their post on Facebook about it, and I wanted to go and support others with disabilities. They had little stalls all set up for disabled persons selling their hand crafted goodies to buy, which was really cool. You could enter t

Golden Circle Factory Outlet
A trip to the Golden Circle Factory Outlet is a great outing for bargain hunters! Located in Morayfield and Capalaba, this fantastic store offers clearance stock from Heinz and Golden Circle, allowing you to find items at prices much lower than in supermarkets. They also have a pensioner discount on the first Tuesday of the month! You'll find everything from snacks, chocolate, and confectionery to canned goods, drinks, cleaning supplies, and even affordable toothbrushes! It'

Golfers Paradise Club
For something fun on my birthday weekend, we went golfing at Golfers Paradise Club ! Unfortunately they don't accept companion cards, so I just paid for my support worker to play too (or they can watch, of course!). I hired the GTS booth designed for two to three players, which was fantastic. They also have cool rooms for parties, which is awesome. You basically hit balls at a virtual screen as a driving range, or you can play a round. The price includes clubs, balls, tees an

Bounce
Exercise that I found actually fun, and it's for any level of fitness! Bounce has a range of trampolines for a casual bounce or if you have some sick tricks you want to try on "The Wall". There was also an X-Park at our venue for thrill seekers wanting a challenge. There was a great play area for the little kids in the miniBOUNCE zone, as well as catering for adults on the huge amount of large trampolines. We spent most of our time on a large trampoline, then we braved a wal

Eat St Northshore
This is a place you need to go more than once! The food choices are epic and plentiful and everything looks delicious. I would put this in the under $20 category, but it is very hard to keep to a budget here. There are so many varieties of food from all over the world. So many choices. They also have free entertainment on stage you can enjoy, whilst you devour your feast. How cool. Once we finally decided on what we would like for dinner, we sat by the river to get out of the

Forgan Park - Lake Samsonvale
Need a relaxing self care day? This beautiful picnic area at Forgan Park is perfect for some lunch outside in the fresh air. The drive there is nice too. Close to the suburbs, but you feel much further out than you actually are. If you like photography you can really take some gorgeous shots here. We stopped at a local bakery on the way for a delicious chicken and salad roll, some drinks and a sweet treat. I packed along with me my picnic blanket, a small tray table, and a pa

The Lookout Cafe
Looking for a beautiful breakfast or lunch outing? I got you! The Lookout Cafe offers amazing views of a mango orchard and Mount Coonowrin right where you sit. The drive there was lovely, peaceful, and picturesque. It's the perfect spot if you need some self-care and a serotonin boost. There's nothing like fresh country air and beautiful scenery to help calm the mind. Delightful Breakfast and Lunch Options I enjoyed their reasonably priced eggs benedict, which is my favourit
