I decided we just had to go and take a day trip to check out the Kalbar Sunflower Festival last weekend. With some planning I was ready to have a bigger adventure than our usual closer attractions. Wow what a beautiful day we had! Despite a long drive it was so incredibly worth it.

As soon as we could see them from a distance I was so excited! Wow!

View from a car window of a rural landscape with fields, a barn, and distant mountains under a clear blue sky. A field of yellow flowers is visible.

My highlights of the day were firstly just how incredibly beautiful the sunflowers were. We were so busy taking photos around the farm that two hours flew by like nothing. They have really cute mini photo shoot setups amongst the flowers too.

I only took photos with my iphone, so I can only imagine how beautiful they could be if you love photography as a hobby. There was plenty to do and see at the festival. Cute market stalls with crafts, treats and homemade goods. A dedicated kids hub where we got to make a seed bomb to take home and we got our faces painted for free! There was some great classes you could pay to attend like making flower crowns. Devonshire teas were on offer from a really affordable price or a fancy luncheon if you're able to splurge. They had a stage with entertainment too, but my favourite was seeing the aerialists in the sunflowers. Just stunning and they're so talented.

My second favourite part of the day was the cutest, tiniest baby piglets! I love baby animals and especially piglets. I was so lucky their owner was about to bottle feed them and let me feed them. I could have cried I felt so grateful. Who doesn't love little animal farms? It's so relaxing and calming patting these adorable babies. They had goats, chickens and other animals but I was so engrossed with the pigs I didn't look much - my apologies haha.

They also had the option to PYO sunflowers for a cost or buy them cut for you too. I had to bring home a little piece of this heaven with me. I opted to buy a bunch of 5 HUGE beautiful sunflowers for only $15!

In summary, I had a really beautiful day. I am so glad I went. It's definitely on my "Something you need to go and do at least once" list. I felt I really got my monies worth and left feeling so full of gratitude and happiness. Thank you to my support worker for making it possible and immensely enjoyable.

Customer Service

Excellent! I needed to know times before they were published to organise my support worker's shift. They were prompt, friendly and helpful. Staff/volunteers we experienced on site were lovely.

Wheelchair Access/Friendly

There were buggies to help people from their car to the gate of the festival due to a very grassy hill and gravel road. There was hard plastic flooring put around places within the flowers for easier walking and wheelchair access. There is a lot of grass and small inclines around the farm for the most part. There were four disabled toilets on site.

Distance From Parking to Venue/Parking

There was disability parking close to the gate. Buggies available as stated above. Lighting not an issue as it was a daytime/afternoon event for those with security anxiety. Free parking onsite at the farm.

Security

We went during the day and felt safe at the festival. It was a very family friendly event. There was quite a lot of staff/volunteers about with approachable friendly faces. First Aid was easy to find.

Pet Friendly

Yes. Must be on a lead. See website for more details.

Quiet Spaces

They were provided and were very cute and welcoming.

Black tent labeled "Mental Health & Disability Support" in a sunflower field, with hay bales, pillows, and a patterned carpet. Red stools outside.

Food Options

I ended up buying breakfast on the way due to a long drive, so wasn't particularly hungry. Quite a few food trucks were there that seemed normally priced for an event like this. I only bought a delicious refreshing drink and some strawberry cream melting moments from a market stall. YUM! You can take your own snacks and drinks on a budget. (No BYO alcohol). They have free water filling stations.

Crowds

There were a lot of people in attendance just looking at the cars there, but we never felt crowded. I guess everyone was all over the farm in different spots so it never felt uncomfortable.

I hope this information helps and you get to experience this wonderful event for yourself. If you think anything needs to be added regarding your disability, please feel free to CONTACT ME

*Correct at time of attending event 2nd May 2025.

Some blog posts the attendance date is much older than the publish date, if I attended before I started blogging. Thank you for your understanding.
