Nestled amongst the sweeping country landscapes of the Sunshine Coast hinterland, is Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World. Full of super lush gardens, waterfalls and overlooking the magnificent Glass House Mountains. What a view!

Lush garden with two ponds in the foreground, surrounded by vibrant greenery. Mountains visible in the distance under a clear blue sky.

This place has so many gorgeous picnic spots and many walking trails amongst the flowers and lakes. Perfect way to unwind and feel like you're in another world.

Ducks swim on a serene pond beside a lush garden. A green gazebo and a vivid red tree stand in the background under a clear blue sky.

They have two major attractions here which are Farm Friends and Bird World. Farm Friends was full of cute miniature animals like donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens and roosters. You could feed and pat them which was awesome. You can tell the animals are really well looked after and the area was so well maintained. (two big thumbs up from me) After patting and feeding them, we just sat on a seat in there for a while enjoying the animals antics! This cheeky sausage got put in time out! Hahaaaa. We were highly amused.

Black goat tied to a tree with a blue leash, standing on gravel. Sunlight casts dappled shadows on its coat. Calm setting.

Now Bird World. WOW.

This massive combination of aviaries is really a sight to see. It has over 600 native and exotic birds from all over the world. They are so interesting to learn about and absolutely beautiful to see up close. We had an excellent guide who told us a lot about the birds as we walked through each section. The tour is really interactive, it was amazing. You could get up close watching them feed or even have them sit on your shoulder, hand or head! How cool! Aren't they so beautiful?!

Colorful parrot with vibrant orange, green, and blue feathers perches on a brown hat in an aviary. Wire fence and greenery in background.

I would find myself just looking closely how their feathers were different colours from their head down their body and to their tail. Mind blowing. There is a warning though - you need to take off any jewellery, glittery items and hats with buttons. The birds love to take these little treasures to go off and play with them. I looked a masking taped up mess with my piercings but it was worth it lol. The guide will make sure you are safety ready. You can also choose not to have birds land on you, the guide helps you with either choice. I personally loved it and waited in line eager for my turn!

Look at this fancypants. What a display! They really worked the room too, and kept turning like they were posing for each angle so all of us could get a good photo. Maybe they were feeling extra fabulous for us that day.

Peacock with vibrant blue and green feathers fanned out in a zoo-like setting, standing on gravel, creating a stunning display.

The venue does have a lot of walking if you wish to do so, but they also have buggies for hire by the hour. We did catch a free lift on a passing buggy up a hill, which was much appreciated at the time. Their friendly staff can give you a lift from Bird World to the cafe for free. I highly recommend this place just for the birds, but it's a wonderful spot for a picnic and to relax. I found it to be really good value for money.
