On my bucket list was always to see my first ballet. With support now, I was really excited and determined to go and do it! I decided to treat myself for a Christmas present to see The Nutcracker at QPAC's Playhouse, which is in December annually.

Wall display of ballet shoes with "Queensland Ballet" sign, lit by warm lights, creating an artistic and inviting ambiance.

We had a delicious cheese board and a beverage beforehand, as we waited with anticipation for the performance. It's always a nice opportunity to dress a little fancier than usual too!

The choreography was so beautiful that I found myself holding back tears. I felt incredibly lucky and grateful to be there. The costumes, sets, and dancing were just phenomenal. The performance lasted two hours, with a short interval, and I was engrossed the entire time.

Dancers in colorful costumes bow onstage under purple lights, in a vibrant, ornate setting with pink and purple hues, exuding excitement.

It's not something I can afford to do often, but for a special occasion, birthday or Christmas treat it was well worth it. That they accept Companion Card which gave my support worker free entry, is spectacular! I definitely want to see another at some point, or maybe a play next time?

Is there a play, ballet or performance you've seen that you highly recommend at QPAC? I'd love to hear about it.

Accessibility Information

🎟️ Cost

This depends on your seating and the performance.

  • I think I paid around $100 for myself.

🗓️ When

5th-13th December 2025 for The Nutcracker.

See website for dates and show times of any upcoming performances on at QPAC.

📍 Where

See website for where your performance will be.

We saw The Nutcracker at the Playhouse, Russell St, South Brisbane QLD 4101.

♿ Companion Card

Accepted. Free entry for your support person.

Ease of use: Easy - I booked over the phone for it. I was then emailed the tickets.

😊 Customer Service

Very good. All staff were helpful and friendly.

🧑‍🦽 Wheelchair Access

Yes, they have a wheelchair seating area. Contact the box office for this, whilst also getting your companion card ticket.

🚗 Parking & Transport

This will change from venue to venue depending on where your performance is. We were able to park not too far from the venue. The Playhouse had a dead end street and good place for drop off if needed.

🔒 Security

We went during the day and felt very safe. This will be venue dependent. It is a bit of a walk from the car if night time.

🐾 Pet Policy

I am unsure for this one, please contact venue for information.

🧘 Quiet Spaces

Not provided.

🍔 Food Options

There are three different bars I believe at the Playhouse. We had a cheese plate for around $20 and it was substantial and delicious.

👥 Crowds

Outside of the venue was great spacing. I personally felt cramped inside of the venue. The seats are quite narrow and not much leg room.

There is a great access guide also on their website.

I hope this information helps plan your visit and encourages you to experience a beautiful performance for yourself. If you think anything needs to be added regarding your disability, please feel free to CONTACT ME

Correct at the time of attending the event on 6th December 2023

Note: Some blog posts may refer to attendance dates that are much older than the publish date, if I attended before I started blogging. Thank you for your understanding.
