Bowling is not just a game; it’s a social experience, a delightful outing, and a chance to engage in light exercise. For individuals with disabilities and their support workers, bowling presents an inclusive environment where everyone can participate and enjoy themselves.

The ambiance is relaxed, and the rules are simple. You don’t need to be a pro to have a great time. With its casual setting, bowling allows you to engage without the pressures found in some other activities.

Bowling is also very affordable compared to other recreational activities too. Strathpine Bowl offers discounted games for people with disabilities and their support person - just $6 per game each! This is a fantastic deal. I found it so reasonable, I paid for my support worker so I had someone to play against.

Bowling venues have made significant strides to ensure all individuals can enjoy the game. Strathpine Bowl includes wheelchair access to the lanes, special bowling ramps to help direct your ball, bumper bowling and lightweight bowling balls to choose from.

Bowling may not seem like a high-intensity workout, but it offers light exercise that can be beneficial for everyone. I ended up with a sore right side leg the next day and I was pretty exhausted after two games - it was great!

Engaging in light exercise like bowling can of course, also improve your mood and overall well-being. The social components of the game encourage laughter and connection, making it not just a physical activity, but also a great mental boost. I love the boost of dopamine and serotonin it provides.

You can also download your scores digitally and share with your friends and family. I love this feature. Please don't judge our bowling scores. We had a tie breaker! If we add the scores together, we can say I won though..... right?

Two bowling scorecards, one scores 90 and 66, the other scores 81 and 97. Orange backgrounds with patterns and a blue border.

Bowling is more than just a game; it’s an opportunity to meet new friends and be part of a supportive community too. Many local leagues and bowling clubs focus on inclusive practices, welcoming individuals with disabilities to join. Consider signing up for a league, or simply show up at your local alley on open bowling nights to meet others. I'm sure your support person would love to help you achieve those goals, if you desire them.

In summary, bowling offers a warm and inviting atmosphere where everyone is welcome. With some infectious enthusiasm and a myriad of supportive features, this activity ensures that any ability can join in on the excitement and enjoy their time together. Be it a casual outing or a competitive match, remember that the most important part of bowling is to have fun!

So, why not gather your friends, family or support worker for a day of strikes and spares? Bowling awaits!
